How much CBD should I take?

The answer to how much CBD one should take is complicated for a variety of reasons. It’s similar to yelling “a bowl of spaghetti!” in response to someone asking, “what should I eat when I’m hungry?”  A more practical and logical retort would be questions like, when was the last time you ate? Do you have any food allergies? How hungry are you? What sort of activity will you be doing after you eat?

Comparably, how much CBD someone should take is greatly dependent upon multiple follow-up questions. For instance, what are you taking it for – anxiety, pain, inflammation? There are a myriad of reasons for people taking CBD, and thusly, your recommended dosage is dictated by both the issue you are trying to treat, as well as the severity of the issue. Additionally, how you metabolize CBD, your body-fat percentage (no judgement!) and your activity level can also effect your required dosage. As such, although we cannot provide a generic dose for anyone and everyone, we can provide some guidance for establishing your personalized dose.

Pain & Inflammation (#1 reason our customers use CBD)

First and foremost, if you are taking CBD for pain and/or an inflammatory condition, you will require a higher dose than for anxiety and stress. Begin with 40-50mgs of CBD, 2-3x per day, for 3-4 days. The goal is to establish a loading dose. A loading dose is an initial higher dose of a drug that may be given in the beginning of treatment before dropping down to a lower, maintenance dose. Please note, CBD can cause drowsiness, so if you find a dose that high is making you extraordinarily tired, then decrease your dose by 5-10mgs.

On days five through seven, continue with 40-50mgs per day, but only 1-2x per day. On day eight, if you are beginning to feel a difference in your pain and inflammation, you may begin decreasing your dose to a maintenance dose (decrease by 5-10mgs, every three days). If you are still having issues with pain and inflammation, continue with 40-50mgs per day, 1-2x per day. Continue to adjust your dose every 3-5 days, till you establish your personalized dose.

Anxiety and Stress (#2 reason our customers use CBD)

Anxiety and stress generally requires lower doses of CBD than pain and inflammation. If you are taking CBD for anxiety and/or stress, start with 20-30mgs, 2-3x per day, for 3-4 days. Again, the goal is to establish a loading dose, where you initially take more CBD, but eventually drop down to a maintenance dose. Please note, CBD can cause drowsiness, so if you find a dose that high is making you extraordinarily tired, then decrease your dose by 5-10mgs.

On days five through seven, continue with 20-30mgs, but only 1-2x per day. On day eight, if you are beginning to feel a difference in your anxiety and stress, you may begin decreasing your dose to a maintenance dose (decrease by 5-10mgs, every three days). If you are still having issues with anxiety and stress, continue with 20-30mgs per day, 1-2x per day. Continue to adjust your dose every 3-5 days, till you establish your personalized dose.

When will I experience results?

Although many of our customers experience relief in that first week, others will take several weeks or months to feel a considerable difference. It is important to remember that CBD is not a miracle drug, and requires the same amount of patience and consistency as any other medication (plant-based or otherwise). Depending on the severity of your condition, and the concentration you are consuming, it may take up to three months of consistent use before you begin to experience a noticeable difference. So please, be patient, be consistent, and keep going.
